Snap-on (also searched for as “Snap On” or “Snapon”) is an American tool brand long trusted by professional mechanics and service technicians. Its products are used in automotive workshops, industrial maintenance, manufacturing and aviation servicing, where precision and reliability are essential. Many of its hand tools are covered by the manufacturer's lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Snap-on technologies include the Flank Drive® profile used in wrenches and sockets, Dual 80® and Cynergy™ 100 ratchet mechanisms, and Crowfoot wrenches for working on fluid-line connections, including those found in aviation.

Snap-on Ratchets – Dual 80 and Cynergy 100 Mechanisms

Snap-on offers a wide range of hand ratchets with 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drives, including compact models, extended-handle versions, and fixed, flex-head or swivel-head designs. Dual 80® uses two pawls and a 72- or 80-tooth gear, providing a ratcheting arc of 5° or 4.5°, respectively. The Cynergy™ 100 series features 100 teeth and a 3.6° working arc. The FHNF100 shown below also has 100 teeth and a 3.6° arc, but uses a different round swivel-head design. Snap-on also offers pneumatic ratchets.

The F80FOD and GF80FOD ratchets are designed to reduce the risk of FOD (Foreign Object Damage), particularly in aviation maintenance. The mechanism cover and direction selector are secured with rivets to reduce the risk of these components becoming detached. The GF80FOD has a black industrial finish without chrome plating.

Snap-on Sockets – Flank Drive Profile

In selected Snap-on sockets, the Flank Drive® profile transfers load to the flats of bolts and nuts, helping reduce the risk of rounding their corners. The range includes metric and imperial sockets, 6-point and 12-point versions, shallow, deep, low-profile and universal-joint designs. Magnetic, bit and impact sockets are also available, as well as Torx® and spline profiles, extensions, universal joints and adaptors.

Snap-on Wrenches – Flank Drive Plus and High Performance

The Snap-on range includes metric and imperial combination, ring, ratcheting, S-shaped, offset-head and striking wrenches. A distinctive feature is Flank Drive Plus®, which uses serrations on the open-end jaws to improve the grip on a bolt or nut. According to the manufacturer, this allows up to 62% more torque to be applied than with a conventional open-end wrench. The technology is used, among others, in the SOEX710 and SOXR707A sets. The wrenches in the latter set also have an 80-tooth ratcheting mechanism in the ring end.

The XDHFM606 set contains six long double-ended ring wrenches with Flank Drive High Performance profiles and thin-wall, straight heads (0° offset). These wrenches meet the AS954 standard for tools used with 12-point aerospace fasteners.

Snap-on Crowfoot Wrenches – Line Fittings and Aviation Applications

Snap-on Crowfoot wrenches are available in open-end, heavy-duty and open-ring designs, with drives including 3/8" and 1/2". Open-ring Crowfoot attachments with the Flank Drive® profile grip a nut from several sides, while the opening allows work on line fittings without disconnecting the lines, for example in hydraulic, fuel and air-conditioning systems. The range includes metric 6-point FRHM attachments, imperial FRH versions, and deep 12-point AN850 attachments.

Snap-on in Civil and Military Aviation

For over 30 years, Snap-on has developed its Tool Kitting programme, comprising complete tool sets for the maintenance of civil and military aircraft and helicopters. Snap-on Tool Carts and Storage Cabinets

Snap-on is also known for premium tool carts and cabinets distinguished by robust construction, high load capacities and extensive configuration options. The range includes the Classic, Masters and EPIQ series, which differ in structural reinforcement, drawer load capacity and operating mechanisms. Classic uses the Lock ’n Roll® drawer retention system, Masters offers more heavy-duty drawer slides, while the flagship EPIQ series features the InPulse™ drawer mechanism and the ISO-Ride+™ suspension system.

The scale of the range is illustrated by the EPIQ KEXN603C1PBO, a cabinet more than three metres wide, with 20 drawers and a manufacturer-stated total load capacity of up to 7,257 kg. Level 5 – Automated Tool Control

For applications that require strict tool accountability, Snap-on has developed Level 5 Automated Tool Control (ATC). This is a separate tool management system used, among other settings, in aviation and industry. Its key functions include:

automatic scanning of drawer contents and detection of tools that have been removed or returned;
user identification and recording of tool issue and return history;
access control using an identification credential;
reporting of missing tools to support FOD prevention procedures and equipment accountability.

Level 5 ATC uses image recognition, inventory management software and custom foam inserts. It is not standard equipment on all Snap-on tool carts and cabinets, but a separate solution available in special configurations.
