How does laser tool marking work?

Laser tool marking uses a focused laser beam to create precise markings directly on the surface of a material. Depending on the material and marking parameters, the laser can change the surface colour or remove a thin layer of material to produce a permanent mark. The process is contactless and does not require paints, labels or stickers.

This technology makes it possible to apply small numbers, letters and symbols with high precision, even on limited surfaces such as sockets, wrenches and ratchets. Careful selection of the marking size, contrast and position is essential to ensure good readability without covering the manufacturer's original markings or interfering with the tool's functional surfaces.

Compared with stickers or markings made using permanent markers, properly executed laser engraving generally offers greater resistance to wear. However, the durability of each marking depends on the material, marking method and conditions in which the tool is used.

One code for an entire tool set or an individual number for each tool?

Tools can be marked with a common identification code for the entire set, such as W03 for all tools assigned to the third tool trolley, or with a unique number for each individual tool, such as W03-017. The first option makes it easier to assign tools to a particular case, trolley or workstation.

Individual numbering is particularly useful for companies maintaining detailed equipment records, tool issue and return logs, or calibration documentation for measuring instruments. We apply markings according to the numbering system and identification list provided by the customer.

In addition to marking tools directly, we also offer engraving on specialist engraving laminates. This technology allows us to produce clear, high-contrast labels with tool names, symbols and identification numbers, used for identifying tools and their designated positions in foam inserts for tool cases, boxes and trolleys.

Send us details of the tools you would like to have marked, including the quantity and the markings required. If each tool needs a different identification number, a simple table listing the corresponding codes is sufficient. We will agree on the marking position and the details of the service.
